Summer is my favorite time of the year. I love the sunshine, the laid-back feeling, and any excuse to get outside and play. This weather also brings with it a bevy of learning experiences to share with your child.

This yummy warm dish is one of our family favorites. The ingredients are easy to keep on hand (I love using left over chicken or picking up a Rotisserie from the store in route to home), and the kids always ask for seconds. Try it and let us know how your family liked it!

The Wild West is a time of exploration and excitement that peaks every child’s interest. Since May is the documented month of the opening of Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show, it’s the perfect time to do some educational sharpshooting.

It is a fact; most all schools end the year with some version of “field day.” That is because kids choose it year after year as their favorite end-of-the-year celebration. From preschool to high school, everyone enjoys kicking off their summers with good, old fashioned physical silliness and fun. It builds camaraderie, tickles the silly bone, and provides plenty of adrenaline rushed excitement.

In honor of Teacher Appreciation Week, we’d like to applaud our great teaching staff. Every morning at Childcare network, you put your child in trustworthy hands. Women and men who love what they do and who are committed to continued professional development.
This month we will be celebrating the work being done by Childcare Network #77 in New Bern, North Carolina. Their newest building came off of a temporary license and went straight to a five-star license; the highest rating possible in the state of North Carolina. The new building was originally a laundry mat and was converted to an early learning environment in May 2011. The renovation took nearly three months, but was worth it. The school is now almost at maximum capacity!
Jorge Rivera Jr. is a School Age teacher at Childcare Network #109 in Fayetteville, North Carolina. His Mother Lizel Rivera has Multiple Sclerosis. Multiple Sclerosis is a chronic autoimmune disorder that happens when a person’s immune system, which normally protects the body, attacks and destroys the body’s healthy tissue. Multiple Sclerosis attacks the central nervous system (CNS) – the brain, spinal cord, and nerve fibers to the eyes. The disorder attacks the covering that surrounds and protects the body’s nerve fibers. When this covering is damaged or destroyed, nerve impulses are interrupted and creates Multiple Sclerosis symptoms.

This month we would like to take a moment to celebrate a great crewmember of our staff at Childcare Network #127 in Wilmington, North Carolina. Theresa Ramppen was recently nominated for the Presidential Pin by her Director, Aimee Newber. This pin was presented in honor of the outstanding contributions she has made to her school.

The warm, windy weather is perfect for kite flying. Right now is great time to have some educational fun with your kids. Start by discussing the sounds in the word “kite.” Focus on the hard “k” and hard “t.” Let your child practice making those sounds and identifying other words with those sounds. Then, go on an indoor or outdoor scavenger hunt for other items that have the same sounds. You can also find some really cute sound poems online. These same activities work for the long “i” sound.
Beyond the usual suspects (wallet, keys, lipstick) I’ve listed my 10 ten favorite (most often handy) things to keep in my purse. Your task is to read the list and share any great ideas that we’ve left off with the rest of us moms.
